Cookie Cutter ornaments

Posted on: December 12, 2011

I am hoping to make more fun lunches in the next 2 weeks.  In the meantime I have been a bit frantic trying to get things in order for Christmas.  I made these ornaments a couple of years back when my first daughter was almost 2.  I wanted my kids to have a tree (at least the bottom half) that looked cute AND that they could touch.  So I took the time and used my cookie cutters to make them.  I purchased different colors of Crayola brand Model Magic.  It’s like a non-crumbling air dry Play Doh.  It’s safe for kids of all ages, easy to decorate & lasts.  All I did was cut out the shapes, punch a hole with a straw at the top and let the kids decorate with gems, buttons, make patterns with utensils, etc.  They dry to the touch overnight and completely over 72 hours.  Then I threaded holiday ribbon through the straw hole and hung them right on the tree.  My kids love them, they don’t break easily and if they do they can be glued back together pretty easily.   I love that they’re not perfect and made by them!

Hope everyone remembers to take a deep breath & enjoy time with the ones they love!

These were the originals I made:

Here’s what Miss A (22 mo.) made today:

And Miss G’s creations (3 yrs. 10 mo):

I like them with smudges, fingerprints & misshapen from the kids poking and doing their best.  Here are the ones I helped with today:

These are so precious! How awesome to have homemade ornaments and created life long memories too. :)
I didn’t realize they were that easy to make, I guess! Very sweet.
