Is everyone getting in gear for the holidays? I’m still planning our Thanksgiving meal. It will be just the 4 of us this year so the pressure’s off. I am starting to get a bit jittery about the holidays. So much to do! It’s all good, family fun though.
Miss A doesn’t have school this week so I’m just packing for Miss G, 4, and her preschool lunch. I made some almond butter mini pocket sandwiches with Rudi’s brand Honey Sweet Whole Wheat bread. It helps to flatten the bread a bit before making these pockets so the filling is less likely to pop through the bread. To the right of her mini sandwiches are watermelon hearts surrounded by steamed edamame and dried apricot tulips. In the bottom tier from the left are black seedless grapes, a piece of cauliflower, 2 Hail Merry macaroons in between the cups, and a silicone flower cup of grape tomatoes on the right.
Miss G’s snack is 2 Crimson Gold organic apples, sliced plums, mango hearts and a dried apricot shape on a ring pop holder.
I will be posting my Thankful Giveaway on Wednesday of this week. Stay tuned and come back to enter to win some fun goodies! It will be a good one!

I am fortunate enough to have been on the list of people who were chosen to try out the new CuteZCute cutter for fun sandwich and bento faces. I have to say I’m super impressed at the easy of use and cleaning and the adorable, fun lunches in about 5 minutes flat. I can’t wait to let my 4 year old make her own lunches with it. For the affordable price it also will make for super cute gifts for the holidays too! All these tools come in 1 box.
The cutter is available at my favorite bento supply store Bento USA by All Things For Sale as well as on Amazon.
The panda face is on Rudi’s whole grain bread with a Stretch Island fruit leather face. The sandwich is on a bed of brown and wild rice with grape tomatoes and sugar snap peas. At the top left are grapes in a flower shape with a piece of panda baran (food separator) for decoration. at top right is a clementine orange I colored a panda face with a marker & peeled the ears up for fun. The lunch is packed in her Easy Lunchboxes container.
Miss G’s snack today was strawberry hearts, panda face shaped cantaloupe pieces and apricot mango soy yogurt in the round container in her Happy Tiffin bento.
Even Miss A gets a small version with the pig cutter. On the left side of her LunchBots Duo are pieces of cantaloupe, pluots, and below in the white pig silicone cup are watermelon pieces. Above the sandwich on the right is a small pig container with dried cranberries in it and sugar snap peas. The sandwich is simply whole grain bread with almond butter on the bottom and strawberry jam on the top so that it squishes through for color.

My neighbor and I decided to try to stuff all the little tummies before the candyfest this evening. We divided up duties and made a fun and healthier feast. Most of the kids are under 4 which makes it a little tough. We decided on PB & Js on whole grain bread since there were no food allergies in the group. The PB & Js are the skeletons and pumpkins so the jelly would “bleed” through the eyes and mouths. We also made owls, cats and a few brooms. We used pre-made candy eyes and used plastic rings as decorations.
We also did cups with ranch dip on the bottom and carrot & celery sticks stuck in them after seeing the idea on Pinterest.
Mandarin orange cups with Sharpie marker faces on them.
Green and black seedless grapes with skeleton rings.
Also included (and not impressive) were Sabra mini hummus cups with pretzels.
Hope everyone had a safe & fun Halloween evening!

on:Little Miss A had dress up day today at school so she’s decked out in her Minnie Mouse dress & polka dot bow today. Miss G is home with me still under the weather, but resting in full Cinderella decor on the couch. I sent Miss A with a turkey & cheese on pumpernickel cat sandwich, Applegate turkey dog stars and a moon marshmallow on the left. On the right are watermelon cats, a pasta skewer of sliced green grapes, prunes and dried cranberries. She also has an ice water and a whole milk, berry flavored Lifeway Kefir pouch with her lunch.

Miss G requested a fish this morning so I used the template from http://funkylunch.com/gallery.htm. The cookbook that he has is great because it is simple and uses ingredients that most people have already in their refrigerators. I made a sandwich and then sliced a large carrot with a mandoline and cut the slices to fit. The eye is the premade royal icing eye and the smile is made from fruit leather. Underneath the fish are heart shaped green crisps from the asian food store, and the bottom portion is red, seedless grapes and blueberries.
Little Miss A went for her second day today. Her lunch was leftover Annie’s Organic Macaroni Shells with edamame topped with a cheese cat and fruit leather face. She also had sliced blueberries, red, seedless grapes in a silicone cat cup and the same green crisps. She also had a Lifeway kefir pouch and a GoGo squeez applesauce pouch.

Normally I do lunches for Miss G when she’s off to preschool, but every now & then I find the time to do something quick for both girls at home. These are just tiny PB & Js with cherries and plums. Miss G wanted to make her own so I try to keep it as simple & mess free as I can. Even little Miss A who is 17 months is starting to enjoy the fun shapes. It doesn’t have to be complicated to make it fun for them. Remember, their tummies are small so try to make realistic portions (size of their fist). The plate should be half fruits and veggies at every meal!

I have been looking back over some lunches I did a while back. Some of you may have seen them already on Facebook, but I thought a tutorial might help if you’re looking to replicate them at home.
I made this one with flatbread, but regular bread or sandwich thins work nicely too. I hand cut the sandwich shape. Kitchen glasses work nicely to cut circles or just a plain circle cookie cutter work well too. I used raisins for the eyes and a craisin for the nose. Kitties whiskers are 2 strawberry Pocky sticks broken and stuck into the sandwich. You can find them in the asian section of your grocery store or at almost any asian grocer. They’re about $1 per box, and use them quickly because they get stale fast. I also hand cut Hello Kitty’s bow out of fruit leather. I cut a V out of the top of the strawberries to take the stem off, and it usually comes out heart shaped. On the flamingo pick are 4 organic grape tomatoes. I included cocoa almonds for a treat and cheese flowers.
I really like LunchBots to pack the lunches in. I buy them through http://www.reuseit.com where I find tons of great stuff to replace the disposable products most people use. They are stainless steel, wash well and never pick up odors from day to day like plastics will.
