This was from last week’s lunches.  I’m just behind on posting.   I was running late the morning I made this.  I used a dinosaur cookie cutter.  I used a chocolate decorator drop for the eye and the leftover crust for the plates and the spiked tail on the Stegosaurus.  I added some wheat spiral umbrella cookies I found at the Asian grocery store along with the snack size Sabra hummus, whole grain pretzel sticks and Craisins in the stainless LunchBot bento.  In the butterfly container, I cut strawberries with my stainless flower vegetable & fruit cutter and filled in the space with raspberries & blueberries.

Little sis got a smaller version of the lunch.  She also had the hummus with mini bread sticks for dipping, cashews and in the heart bento she got raspberries, blueberries, flower shaped strawberries and a mini PB&J circle sandwich.  Both girls had a Lifeway Kefir pouch and waters with their lunches.

My kids aren’t normally in school Tuesdays, but my mother-in-law is visiting this week.  Their school was kind enough to let me switch days so I could get a few things done at home.  For the pip squeak, I decided on little bears.  She loves Goodnight Moon and the 3 bears sitting on chairs.  These are just PB & Js on whole grain bread. The faces are stamped out of fruit leather with my tiny face cutters.  I used a tiny silicone bear to put her blueberries in.  The separate smaller bento is raspberries and a Babybel cheese with a teddy bear stamped out of the wax.   Both of the Elph & Epha bento containers are part of the new collection I bought from http://www.japanistic.com.  They are the perfect size for little lunches and snacks, and they are BPA free so no worry of leaching chemicals into food.  I usually include a Lifeway kefir pouch for their daily probiotics and an ice water.

Big sis wanted to help with her lunch today so it got a bit sloppy.  She wanted 3 bunnies sandwiches in her lunch.  She also has PB & Js on whole grain with fruit leather faces, a packet of Annie’s organic fruit bunnies for dessert.  The top part of the LunchBots Duo bento is a silicone bunny container with cashews, organic strawberries & blueberries and colby jack bunnies with black sesame seed faces.

A passion of mine for the past couple of years is to do small things to save the honey bees.  We use as few pesticides and toxic things in our yard as possible, we buy our honey from local bee farms and most of our garden is planted to attract pollinators. Honey bees and other pollinators like butterflies are disappearing at an alarming rate.  What you do directly effects the food you eat!  Did you know that one in every three bites of food we eat is attributed to honey bee pollination?  Honey bees pollinate over 100 fruits vegetables and nuts.   Can you imagine a world without bees?  Haagen-Dazs has a wonderful website to explain what each of us can do to help with this epidemic.  Please visit: Help The Honey Bees

So, again the cute heart shaped bento is among the bunch that I got from http://www.Japanistic.com from their Elph & Epha collection.  I put the fruits & veggies separately so the moisture doesn’t ruin the sandwich.  In the “Bill” heart shaped bento are flowers made of organic blueberries & 2 raspberries for the center.  On the bottom are carrot & celery sticks cut with a crinkle cutter and the yellow sauce container has ranch dressing for dipping in it.  The beehive was cut by hand out of whole grain bread & took a couple of times “remodeling” before it looked a thing like a beehive.  The layers and letters are cut out of fruit leather.  The tiny bee is a small egg shaped cookie cutter with fruit leather stripes & eye, and the wings are small bread scraps cut by hand.  I also used the small egg cutter to cut the opening to the hive and replace with the same shaped bread heel.  Phew!  This one took me much longer than most because it was my first attempt at my own design.  Happy Monday, everyone!

Yesterday my little one, Miss A, started her first 1/2 day at preschool.  She is a healthy eater, but she’s still only 18 months old.  I wanted to make sure to be realistic about the portions and include some of her favorite foods.  I also bought some new BPA free bento boxes for smaller portion sizes that I’m trying out.  I bought them at  http://www.Japanistic.com

The squirrel container had small heart and flower shaped PB & Js on sprouted wheat.  The heart container has mandarin oranges on the right and edamame and strawberries on the left.  Not included in the picture was a Lifeway flavored kefir pouch.

Big sis got her PJ & J on the same sprouted wheat bread with a triangle face (chocolate sprinkle face stuck on with Nutella) and a small man shaped sandwich.  On the left is a new treat that I found at Whole Foods.  A Clif Kid organic fruit twist, and in the bento box are mandarin oranges, strawberries and edamame on colorful flower & petal picks.
