So I get tired of making sandwiches although Miss G never seems to tire of them.   I decided to switch it up today.  Miss G ate it all, and Miss A dumped hers all over the classroom floor.  Protest?  Not sure, but she wasn’t into it today.  In any case, Miss G had black beans & brown basmati rice on the right side of her stainless LunchBots bento.  On the left are picks of watermelon and strawberries, small heirloom & grape tomatoes and blueberries & raspberries.

Miss A had her beans & rice in a small container and fruit separate from the rest. I added some cute animal picks to both.  She had watermelon, strawberries and dried apricots on top which she ate.  Happy Wednesday!

Today was my attempt at a pilgrim.  I ended up using a gingerbread man cookie cutter rather than hand cutting as I had hoped. The letters and buckle on the hat and the mouth are apple fruit leather.  For the pilgrim’s eyes, I used small candy pieces.   The acorns are dried apricots.  I found a bag of organic orchard apples at my local grocery store which are the perfect toddler size.  The “give thanks” is on sliced green apples.  The red BabyBel cheese with maple leaf removed is below the small apple, and on the bottom right are raspberries.

Little Miss A had a simple lunch today since she is discarding most of the bread I send.  She gets turkey rolled up, mozzarella string cheese sliced, and on the right are watermelon chunks underneath dried apricot leaves.  Both girls get ice water and flavored kefir with their lunches.

So I think it’s nice to share failures, lazy weeks with little motivation and lunches that even a 3 year old can’t decipher.  I had great intentions of making a lovely mermaid for the 3 year old.  I used a cookie cutter I recently bought.   The sandwich part was fine.  I used carrot slices for the scales.  They look ok, but they wouldn’t stay on for anything.  The spaghetti hair was alright too.  The face was another thing.  With limited time in the morning, I am forced to live with my mistakes.  So she’s in a side pose, but there’s no nose.  I just couldn’t make this one look right so I’ve decided she’s a sleestak mermaid (just google sleestak, and you’ll see what I mean).  She just looks creepy.  Worse yet, my daughter thought it was a seal.   Below her are grape tomatoes and goldfish crackers.  She also had applesauce again, Lifeway Kefir and ice water with her lunch.

The 1 year old got more rolled up ham & cheese with snap pea crisps and craisins underneath.  On the right side were orange slices and watermelon flowers on top.  She too had an applesauce, Lifeway kefir and ice water.

Miss G is finally back to school this week after a long spell of being at home sick.  She wanted a leaf today so she got a maple leaf turkey & cheese sandwich with mini carrots below and a small piece of Halloween candy wedged in.  On the right are watermelon maple & oak leaves and a pick of pineapple and grapes.  She had an ice water & Lifeway berry kefir pouch to drink.

My littlest pumpkin had a small lunch today.  She hasn’t been eating much lunch in the past week.  She also got 2 flowers (turkey & cheese) with green snap peas, a cup of pineapple chunks and watermelon and leftover Annie’s macaroni (her favorite food).  She also had an ice water and a Lifeway flavored kefir with her lunch.

Today’s theme was vampires.  The face was cut from a circle cutter and then the top of the head & wings were made of pumpernickel bread.  The eyes are royal icing (pre-made), mouth of fruit leather and red fangs were cut from juicy gummy treats that ooze.  Above his head are cheese bats, below are skewered grape tomatoes, red seedless grapes and edamame.  To the bottom right is a pair of gummy fangs and to the bottom left are prune bats (and yes they eat them!).  I also used an owl and moon cupcake sugar toppers which I purchased from my favorite local cupcake shop, Cupcakes-a-go-go (https://www.facebook.com/CupcakesagogoSRQ) or http://www.cupcakesago-go.com/.  The bento is in a LunchBots stainless bento box.

My 1 year old had a scaled down version for her lunch.  The same vampire face with cheese bats, edamame and sliced red grapes below.  She also had a pouch of applesauce.

And some mandarins with a sugar pumpkin, also from Cupcakes-a-go-go.

Another quickie lunch today.  I used a pumpkin cookie cutter with a Duff brand stencil on top and food colored gel to make the Jack’s face.

In a separate container was cottage cheese on the bottom and a fruit face with carrot hair on the top.

I was running so late this morning that this picture was taken in my car.  Miss G got a ghost sandwich with chocolate Pocky stick tops for eyes.  He’s surrounded by marshmallow bats & a crescent moon.  On the right are decorative picks of blackberries, blueberries and ghost shaped strawberries on top.  She also had an applesauce in her lunch today.
