2011 Halloween Party Ideas For Kids

Miss G (4 years old) is having a batty bento.  She has a larger bat and smaller bat sandwich on top.  They’re pumpkin butter and almond butter sandwiches made from Rudi’s Whole Grain bread and cookie cutters.  Above them are a seckel pear with bat sticker and red seedless grapes.  At the top left are mini carrots and grape tomatoes and at the top right is cannellini bean bruschetta with multi colored heirloom tomatoes packed in her Easy LunchBoxes container.

Miss G’s snack today is Sabra hummus with pretzel sticks, dried apricots and the heart shaped container with a bat has a few cinnamon apple almonds in it as a treat.

My husband had something far less organized for lunch.  I grabbed an Easy LunchBoxes  container and threw in a rainbow of fruits & veggies.  In the main compartment are snow peas, carrots, grape tomatoes, a seckel pear and a mandarin orange.  At the top left he has quinoa lentil tabouleh from Whole Foods and at the top right is my homemade cannellini bean bruschetta.

The quickest, simplest way to get your kids to eat their fruits and vegetables is to make it fun!  If it has a peel that they’re not going to eat like a banana or an orange, color on it or put a sticker on it!  This was a simple Sharpie marker on a clementine orange that took about 1 minute to make.

This week is the letter V at preschool.   Miss G gets an A E I O U lunch today.  We’re working on some bigger concepts now so this is her intro to vowels.  I don’t expect her to get it right away, but she’s reading enough now that she can have an introduction to them.  She did tell me on the way to school that I should have known she wanted a van for lunch.  Can’t win them all.  I guess tomorrow we’ll do a van unless the teacher comes up with something more interesting.  Her AEIOUs are made with Rudi’s brand whole grain bread and almond butter in them.  The small orange picks have blueberries on them and I wrote vowels on the mandarin orange in marker.  At the top left are snow peas and top right are sliced mini carrots.  In the pink polka dot container is honey mustard which she discovered she likes recently.  Her lunch is packed in an Easy Lunch Box.

Little Miss A is still doing her 2 year old finicky eating.  Today she has a Sabra plain hummus cup with whole grain crackers and quartered mini carrots.  Below that are sugar snap peas, a pick of mandarin orange wedges and blueberries.  Both girls have ice waters with their lunch.

And last but not least is my husband’s sides.  He’s having Amy’s brand frozen vegetable lasagna for the entree.  To go with is is a mixed green salad with red onion slices, green and yellow plum tomatoes from the local market, sweet clover sprouts and mediterranean flavored vegan (soy) feta cheese on top.  At top left is a cup of lentil & quinoa tabbouleh and at the bottom left are purple rice crackers for the tabbouleh and 2 dried apricots packed in his Easy Lunch Box.

Miss G chose to be Kai Lan last year for Halloween, and she still loves to watch her.  Ni Hao Kai Lan is a little Chinese cartoon on Nick Jr.  She teaches little kids words in Mandarin Chinese.   I admit that I woke up a little earlier today to work on this one to surprise her. I made an oval for Kai Lan’s face and cut a circle in half for her ears.  Her hair is all hand cut raspberry fruit leather as are the eyelashes.  The eyes, eyebrows, nose & mouth are cut with a small oval cutter .  The whites of her eyes (yellows) are gruyere cheese.  I cut dried apricot flowers for her hair bows and secured them with 1/2 toothpicks underneath.  I did the same with the eyes and split one of them doing it 😦  The Ni Hao (“hi” in Mandarin Chinese) was also cut with my alphabet cutters using dried apricots.  My husband got the outer parts of the apricots in his lunch!

To go along with the sandwich, I included flower shaped strawberries, mini carrots, cashews and a Clif Kid organic fruit twist for a treat.  Not shown are an applesauce pouch, Lifeway Kefir pouch and an ice water.   Hope everyone has a great weekend!
