We’re off school next week and headed out of town so I have to get my Thanksgiving lunches done in the next couple of days.  This one was a lot easier than I thought it would be.  Just a soy butter and jelly on whole wheat with a carrot beak, fruit leather waddle and candy eyes.  His feathers are apple and carrot slices. Raspberries are to the left and heirloom grape tomatoes are in the squirrel cup.  Also included are an applesauce, Lifeway berry kefir & ice water.

Little sis gets some fall festive sandwiches in turkey, pumpkin & acorn shapes with just turkey inside.  Colby Jack cheese leaves are above with raspberries.  Also included in her lunch are Craisins, and applesauce, Lifeway berry kefir and ice water too.  Both girls’ lunches are packed in LunchBots stainless containers.

Happy fall Tuesday!

My neighbor and I decided to try to stuff all the little tummies before the candyfest this evening.  We divided up duties and made a fun and healthier feast.  Most of the kids are under 4 which makes it a little tough.   We decided on PB & Js on whole grain bread since there were no food allergies in the group. The PB & Js are the skeletons and pumpkins so the jelly would “bleed” through the eyes and mouths.   We also made owls, cats and a few brooms.  We used pre-made candy eyes and used plastic rings as decorations.

We also did cups with ranch dip on the bottom and carrot & celery sticks stuck in them after seeing the idea on Pinterest.

Mandarin orange cups with Sharpie marker faces on them.

Green and black seedless grapes with skeleton rings.

Also included (and not impressive) were Sabra mini hummus cups with pretzels.

Hope everyone had a safe & fun Halloween evening!

So I worked on a project for a local elementary school and decorated clementines tonight.  I got the idea from a picture I found on Pinterest and from some other bento bloggers.  The markers dry out quickly from the oils of the oranges, but it was fun drawing them all.

Today’s theme was vampires.  The face was cut from a circle cutter and then the top of the head & wings were made of pumpernickel bread.  The eyes are royal icing (pre-made), mouth of fruit leather and red fangs were cut from juicy gummy treats that ooze.  Above his head are cheese bats, below are skewered grape tomatoes, red seedless grapes and edamame.  To the bottom right is a pair of gummy fangs and to the bottom left are prune bats (and yes they eat them!).  I also used an owl and moon cupcake sugar toppers which I purchased from my favorite local cupcake shop, Cupcakes-a-go-go (https://www.facebook.com/CupcakesagogoSRQ) or http://www.cupcakesago-go.com/.  The bento is in a LunchBots stainless bento box.

My 1 year old had a scaled down version for her lunch.  The same vampire face with cheese bats, edamame and sliced red grapes below.  She also had a pouch of applesauce.

And some mandarins with a sugar pumpkin, also from Cupcakes-a-go-go.

Hope you’ll forgive my absence!  I took an unexpected trip, but I’m back on target now.   Back to Halloween!

Little Miss 3.5 got an eyeball surprise in her lunch today.  I used a wine glass to cut the circle for her PB & J.  I took a red food safe marker to draw the veins and a gummy eyeball for the center.  The sandwich is surrounded by grape tomatoes and 2 marshmallow bats.  The mouth below is 2 large apple slices (soaked in lemon water for a few minutes to prevent browning) with mini marshmallows for teeth.  Around the mouth are red seedless grapes.

Little Miss 1.5 also got a fun lunch today.  To the left is Annie’s Organic spiral macaroni leftover with a tomato face on top. On the right are mandarin oranges with a colby cheese ghost on top.

And a jack-o-lantern PB & J with a couple of fun marshmallows for a treat.  On the left are red, seedless grapes and 2 colby cheese ghosts on top.  For bigger kids, you can make the jelly bleed out of the face by removing punchouts, but my kids just end up with lunch all over them so I try to save the clothing.

Every little girl needs some pirate fun in their lunch.   Miss G had a skull & bones soybutter and jelly sandwich today surrounded by Halloween themed marshmallows for a surprise.

She had grape tomatoes, bat & skull head watermelon chunks (black sesame seed eyes), and on the right are Dominex brand Eggplant parmesan bites and a BabyBel cheese.

Little A finally went back to school today after a week of sniffles.  We’ve had the back-to-school crud here for weeks! She had pumpkin shaped watermelon on the left with green seedless grapes and blackberries.  On the right was Back to Nature brand bug shaped macaroni & cheese.  I mixed in leftover corn ,carrots, peas & edamame to get her to eat her veggies.

She also ate all her Sabra hummus with green pea sticks for dipping.

My husband also got a sandwich today (not pictured) and a bento full of fruits (black seedless grapes and blackberries) & veggies (mini carrots & grape tomatoes) for munching at his desk.  Wishing everyone a lovely fall weekend!

Another quickie lunch today.  I used a pumpkin cookie cutter with a Duff brand stencil on top and food colored gel to make the Jack’s face.

In a separate container was cottage cheese on the bottom and a fruit face with carrot hair on the top.
