In a rush for fun lunches?  My go to is always the stash of cookie cutters.  These sandwiches are made from linzer cookie cutters which have interchangeable shapes in the middle.

As far as children go, they aren’t any different than adults.  They like their food to be pleasing to the eyes.  If it looks fun and colorful, they are more likely to try it and eat it!  Above is my 4 year old daughter’s lunch. The Rudi’s brand whole grain bread sandwiches are filled with almond butter & strawberry jam.  The cut out shapes came with my linzer cookie cutters.  Near the sandwiches are mini carrot pieces, cashews and dried cranberries.  At the top left are raspberries and the top right are d’anjou pear pieces packed in her Easy Lunchboxes container.

Miss G’s afternoon snack packed in her Happy Tiffin brand stainless container is Amande brand almond milk yogurt in the bottom with a Stretch Island fruit leather bird.  Above are more d’anjou pear pieces.  The birds on the outside look like honeydew melon.  I actually found a new melon at the local organic market this weekend called Piel De Sapo.  It looks like the shape of a honeydew with the skin of a watermelon.  It is a bit sweeter than honeydew & delicious!  I may go back & buy another one before they’re gone.

My 2 year old likes to have everything bite sized otherwise it ends up being picked over and left.  This morsel-sized lunch is packed in her LunchBots Quad stainless container.  Clockwise from the top left are piel de sapo melon flowers, d’anjou pear pieces, flower sandwiches are Rudi’s whole grain with almond butter & jam, and mango flowers.

My favorite part of packing lunches every day is knowing that there is no waste.  No disposable plastic bags as the silicone cups and Easy Lunchboxes compartments do the work for me.  I send the girls and my husband with cloth napkins and reusable napkins each day, and they all take their water bottles which can be refilled thoughout the day.

My husband has leftover dinner from last night.  I made the Engine 2 Diet’s plant based Sweet Potato Lasagna.  I think it looked prettier on the plate last night.

And below are the leftovers  with nectarines and carrot sticks packed to go for lunch at the office.

Today is the first day back to school for us.  Not sure that I’m feeling quite ready for this, but here we go.  These lunches are from last week’s playdate at a friend’s house.  Tomorrow I will post the back to school lunches.  I got 2 new sandwich makers to try.  The first one is from Bento USA by All Things For Sale.  I saw a lunch that they did, and I thought it was the cutest thing.

Expect more pandas from us throughout the school year!  This makes sandwich pockets and even toast cute for your little picky eaters.  Fill the panda face with vegetables or fillings to make them different colors or simply use different kinds of bread.

I was in a rush so I went for simple.   The panda sandwich is on Rudi’s Whole Grain bread with Justin’s Almond Butter and strawberries in the middle.  A homemade mini vegan cornbread muffin is above the sandwich and heart shaped strawberries.  At the top left are organic raspberries with vegan chocolate chips in the middle and panda baran.  At the top right are sliced red seedless grapes and sliced dried apricots packed in an Easy LunchBoxes.

And I got a new sandwich cutter from Pampered Chef friend.  It’s called the cut & seal & makes uncrustable looking sandwich pockets.  I get the feeling I’ll be using this one a lot as makes things quick for me, and I can easily make sandwiches ahead of time and freeze them!

I decided to make a pig out of it for Little Miss 4  year old.  I used candy eyes and the heel of the bread is great for dark accents (the nose and ears).  She also has a vegan mini cornbread muffin and blueberries.  At the top are carrots and Tufutti sour cream for dipping in the small pig container.  At the top right are strawberry hearts with a raspberry in the middle and pig pick packed in her Easy LunchBox.

I packed myself a plain almond butter sandwich and a LunchBots Duo full of fruit.  From the top left are fresh, local Florida mango chunks, blueberries, rasperries and mini carrots.

Things I used to make this lunch:

My kids love Play Doh.  I really hate the mess it leaves.  What I DO love is the Play Doh cutters.  As a bento lunch freak, I look at everything as an idea for a lunch.  I have used Play Doh and play kitchen cutters (well washed, of course) to cut kid foods before.  I used a cookie cutter this sandwich to make the princess crown.  The sandwich is Justin’s Almond Butter & Jam on Rudi’s whole grain bread.  I also stuck a few candy hearts on the crown for the jewels with almond butter.  At the top left are kiwi flowers and the top right are watermelon shoes and magic mirrors for my little princess.

This time of year seems to drain many of us having to buy new shoes, school supplies, uniforms, tuition and just paying for growing kids in general.  Cristi from BentOnBetterLunches did a great post on how to make budget bentos.  She is a mom of 5, and has such a wonderful eye for organization, fresh ideas and keeping kids well fed.  I love that she finds use out of every day items like Play Doh cutters, paper muffin cups and rubberbands that make great bento items.  Her post here on Budget Bento by BentOnBetterLunches can help give you some creative ideas for lunches without spending a penny!  Thanks for the inspiration, Cristi.

Little Miss A, my 2 year old, is having mini square sandwiches.  She has been licking the filling off of the bigger sandwiches I made for her and leaving the bread.  When I switched to something more bite sized, she seems to pop the whole thing in her mouth.  I used the FunBites Cube It cutter to cut the bread and then filled the sandwiches.  In the middle is a silicone heart shaped container with seasoned pumpkin seeds.  The sandwiches are surrounded by dried cranberries.  At the top left are raspberries with a kiwi heart on top and at the top right are watermelon flowers.  The lunch is packed in a LunchBots Duo stainless container.

Chevrons have resurfaced in design, fashion and now I’m putting them into my food.  I love them.  The bright colored Vs in this salad are all different colored sweet peppers.  Underneath the salad is baby spinach and around the salad are cucumber flowers packed in an Easy LunchBox.  At the top left are carrot & celery sticks and at the top right are fresh nectarine slices & raspberries.

Happy 4th of July!  How did that sneak up so quickly?  It seems like school just ended, and now summer’s half over!   My lovely blogging buddies decided to do another blog hop to spark some fun ideas for your Independence Day weekend and upcoming celebrations.  So proud to be a part of such a talented group of women!  Be sure to click on the 4th of July button or link at the end of each post to find the next blog’s creations.

My first creation is a lunch for one of the girls.  It’s 3 star shaped sandwiches on Rudi’s Whole Grain bread.  On both sides of the stars are firework picks of blackberries and raspberries and an American flag flying on top of the sandwiches.  I managed to find some fun vintage picks for my holiday lunches and snacks this round.  At the top left is Lady Liberty sitting on a pile of blueberries.  And at the top right are watermelon stars topped with an Old Guard fife and drum corps pick all packed in an Easy Lunch Boxes container.

The next Easy Lunch Boxes is an afternoon snack.  At the top left is So Delicious brand coconut milk mango yogurt topped with pomegranite seeds and topped with a Liberty Bell pick.  At the top right are blackberries with a strawberry star and a firecracker July 4th pick.  In the large compartment is a star shaped homemade cornbread muffin and pinwheel picks of raspberries and blueberries.

The girls were off to play while I went to the dentist so they got to do lunch on the go.  I made some little pigs for Miss A.  Her sandwich is on Rudi’s Whole Grain bread and a raisin eye.  Above in the white pig are dried cranberries and the pink pig container has organic raspberries.  At the top left are watermelon strips with a pig pick and at the top right are red seedless grapes with a little pig baran peeking out.

Miss G chose the elephant Lunch Punch for her sandwich.  Both mom & baby have raisin eyes on their Rudi’s whole grain bread.  At the top left are red seedless grapes and at top right are elephant shaped watermelon pieces.  Both girls’ lunches are packed in Easy Lunch Boxes.

I also packed a salad for my husband to go with his lunch.  Baby greens of swiss chard, spinach and arugula are topped with a half of an heirloom tomato surrounded by grape tomatoes and cucumbers.  At top left are pineapple chunks and red seedless grapes at the top right packed in his Easy Lunch Box.
