Hi everyone!! I’m Michelle from Creative Food(creative-food.blogspot.com).  I’m so happy to be here on Bentoriffic! I am such a fan and am always in awe of what Sarah creates for her little girls Miss G and Miss A. I am such a fan of Sarah and her food artwork. She is incredible! Even though I haven’t met her in person (yet!) I am happy to call her my friend 🙂 So here I am honored to guest post on her amazing blog!

My blog, Creative Food( creative-food.blogspot.com), is a collection of snacks and lunches that my daughter Eliana and I make together in the kitchen.  I started making creative food because she would literally live off of bread alone if it were up to her.  So I began to present fruits and vegetables in a fun and creative way to encourage her to eat better, which has worked tremendously! It is fun creative outlet for me, and she loves it (win, win!)  We also found out this year that Eliana is allergic to peanuts, cashews and pistachios, so most of the meals (with a few exceptions) are peanut free and nut free.

So without further ado..I made this cute Frog bento in an EasyLunchBox with Eliana last week:

This lunch was very simple, quick to put together and she loved it! 🙂

The frog is a ham and cheese sandwich on a spinach tortilla cut with a frog cookie cutter.  I added edible candy eyes and used a food safe marker to draw a mouth. The lily pad is sliced cucumber. The “water” is white cilantro lime rice dyed blue. (I took some leftover rice, put it in a bowl and mixed in two small drops of blue food dye.) I added some goldfish crackers for added cuteness 🙂 The fly is a raisin with sunflower kernel wings (you can easily put almond slices as wings instead. For example see my spider lunch (http://www.creative-food.blogspot.com/2012/06/very-busy-spider-lunch.html) Eliana isn’t allergic to almonds but has now decided she will not eat them either because they are a nut).

In the upper right Eliana had some “flies on a log” (raisins, sunflower kernels wings, and I.M. Healthy Creamy Honey Soynut Butter on celery. Chocolate sprinkles were used to show the path of the fly).

In the bottom right she has a fruit salad or blueberries and strawberries in a frog silicone cup.  Eliana wanted to add the cute frog pick to finish the lunch!

This really was a simple to do and Eliana loved it and ate it all up. That always makes me happy and keeps me making Creative Food 🙂

Thank you to Sarah for inviting me to share this bento as a guest post on Bentoriffic!  I hope you have a wonderful day!! 🙂

My little ones got aliens for lunch today.  Both of them had soy butter and jam on whole grain bread.  The eyes are candy and the feet & arm made from sliced carrots.  Miss G’s one-eyed alien has a hat pick,  carrot sticks, a skewer of pineapple and mandarins and whole pecans.  I sent an apple sauce as well and ice water to drink.

Miss A has a 3 eyed alien with a pick hat and carrot feet.  To the left are mandarin oranges, pineapple chunks, chopped medjool dates and 2 mini carrot sticks.  She also had an applesauce and ice water with her lunch.

Things I used to make this lunch:

The girls are finally back to school today!  I bought myself the new Sweet Treat Lunch Punch cutters as a present to myself.  How thoughtful of me!  The girls LOVE them and are excited for their new sandwich shapes.  Today Miss G got a cupcake to celebrate the new year and her first day back after the holidays.  She had a soybutter and jam on whole grain bread.  I used honey to stick on the fun sprinkles.  The mini apple got a party hat pick for fun.  To the bottom right are cheddar soy crisps and to the left are blackberries and small picks of blueberries above the sandwich.  She had ice water to go with her lunch.

Little Miss A hasn’t had much of a lunch appetite again this week so I kept it small today.  She picked a little at each thing but didn’t eat much.  She’s at that funny toddler age where she either chows down or eats like a little bird.  I made her a small soybutter and jam squirrel sandwich on whole grain bread.  With that she had a few blackberries, and in the squirrel cup she had blueberries with chocolate covered sunflower seeds on top and a couple of mini carrots.  She also had ice water with her lunch.

Back to the grind, everyone!  Wishing everyone a prosperous year of kept resolutions.

I found out today that Miss G will be in angel in her Christmas program tomorrow.  Nothing like finding out last minute!  I guess she decided that it wasn’t important enough to tell me.  Today she had an angel shaped Wow! soybutter and jelly sandwich in her LunchBots stainless bento box. I “painted” the wings with honey and sprinkled on snowflake candy to make them white.  The halo is a snack from a friend who sent Asian treats.  If I only read Japanese, I could tell you what they are!  They tasted sort of like salty potato chip rings.  She has bread crust hair, eyes and mouth.  The BabyBel cheese has a small angel cutout and the wax leftover was placed on the sandwich for fun.  In the red silicone cup are mandarin oranges with sunflower seeds covered with red, white & green chocolate. I love them because they look like little ornaments or the vintage colored lights.  Also hidden to the far right is a long pick of fresh blueberries.

Miss A has actually been eating more of her mini sandwiches so I decided to try again today.  She got a tree and Santa’s sleigh on whole wheat with ham and provolone inside with a side of leftover Annie’s Organic macaroni shells to the right.  I put tree and star shaped marshmallow shapes on top for her treat.  She also had a mini container of mandarins sprinkled with the same sunflower seeds.  Both girls also had Lifeway flavored kefir with lunch.

OK. So posting this a day later, the sunflower seeds on mandarins was a terrible idea.  The chocolate melted & made them look nasty!  In the future I’d only put them on something that isn’t so runny or if you’re serving them right away it should be fine.

Hope everyone finds some peace and enjoyment during the holiday chaos!
