We are big fans of matryoshka dolls (Russian nesting dolls) here.  I think I was more excited than my girls to have found this 2 tiered bento box on line.

Little Miss 4 year old had her new bento box today full of fresh fruits and vegetables.  On the left are pineapple chunks and red seedless grapes with a carrot flower on top.  One the right side are Rudi’s brand spelt tortilla wraps with almond butter, carrots and green apples julienned and sliced with cherry tomatoes and a cucumber flower below.

For her snack today, she has a Happy Tiffin packed with organic peaches slices, plums and raspberries. Not shown is her Kleen Kanteen bottle with ice water.

Miss G’s preschool is reviewing day in English this week, next week in Spanish.  Wednesday’s lunch is leftover dinner.  We had homemade fusilli pasta from Peperonata Pasta, a local company here in Sarasota that makes delicious homemade vegan pasta.  I mixed in butter beans and edamame, vegan pesto and organic cherry tomatoes in the shape of a W for Wednesday.  I used a cookie cutter to stamp a messy W in a large apple piece at the top left and the top right are seedless organic black grapes packed in her Easy Lunchbox container.

For her snack today, Miss G had circles of honeydew melon and watermelon with raspberry flavored So Delicious coconut milk yogurt in the small stainless container packed in her Happy Tiffin stainless bento.

And Miss A (2) had the same smaller portions of the vegan pesto fusilli pasta too packed in her LunchBots Quad.  She also had honeydew circles, pineapple and plum pieces and watermelon circles in her lunch.

I ran out of creative steam last night so I decided to sleep on it.  I woke up a bit fresher this morning, and thought Pinwheels!  I haven’t done those in a long time.  I usually do a sloppy job of making them.  This time I didn’t put as much filling in them and loaded the girls up with other yummy things in their lunch.

Both of them have almond butter & jam on whole grain tortillas.  Miss G’s version has musical note picks in them to hold them together.  Below on the left are cashews and raisins, and on the bottom right are blueberry stuffed raspberries.  In the top compartments are a mini homemade vegan oatmeal muffin with a tree pick and carrot and celery sticks.

Make sure to ask schools or play places if they are peanut or nut-free before your bring your lunches there.  It could save a child’s life!  As a rule in our family, we don’t take peanut butter out in public just as a precaution.   We only eat it at home now.   We pack SunButter, almond butter and sometimes even a soy based butter.  There are lots of great options out there to explore that won’t endanger someone’s health.

Miss A’s version has the food she likes and will eat.  She has the same mini tortilla roll ups with flower picks.  Below that to the left she has picks of pineapple and blueberries and underneath those are sliced green grapes, at bottom right are cashews and a dried apricot flower.  In the top left compartment is a mini oatmeal muffin with a bee pick and at the top right are raspberries.   Both lunches are packed in Easy Lunch Boxes.

I love cookie cutters.  If you’re running short on time in the morning, like I usually am, it’s a great way to make a cute lunch with minimal effort.  I also found the tiny star cutters in Michael’s in the cake decorating aisle.  They are fondant cutters.  She had her usual peanut butter & jelly with a royal icing eye (purchased through Amazon), honey wheat pretzel braids to dip in her hummus, and mozzarella cheese stars.  Her fruit bento is manadarin oranges, watermelon stars and blackberries.

Little A has been sort of an enigma.  It’s the toddler thing.  One day she’s crazy about a food and the next she flat out refuses it.  I have to keep trying new things.  Today she had the same star theme for her lunch.   The heart bento has mandarin oranges on the left with mozzarella cheese stars and watermelon stars on the right.  In the blue bento she has Annie’s Organic Macaroni & cheese shells on the bottom with carrots and Applegate ham stars on top.

It was water day at school for Miss G so I decided on a shark.   I hand cut the shapes which was a lot tougher than I thought. I decided to make a cartoon shark instead of the real thing since it’s a whole lot easier to improvise.   I used provolone cheese for the teeth & eyes and the nose & eye center are black sesame seeds along with grapes, blueberries and grapes.  Not shown is a Berry Kefir pouch.  If I’m in the mood, I also make a fun lunch for my husband too.  I just did a smiley face with black sesame seeds on his turkey, cheese & spinach sandwich.  The LunchBots container is filled with his fruits & veggies.
